Car accidents are a serious and all-too-common problem across the United States, and Kentucky is no exception. Every day, tens of thousands of motor vehicle crashes occur nationwide, and Kentucky accounts for roughly 1.35% of them. That may seem like a small percentage, but it adds up to over 100,000 car accidents in Kentucky each year, with approximately 34,000 people sustaining injuries. In the Lexington area, drivers face similar risks, especially when others on the road fail to uphold their duty of care.
Unfortunately, most of these traffic collisions are not just random events—they are the result of driver negligence. Whether it's distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, or driver fatigue, negligent behaviors continue to put lives at risk. In 2022 alone, more than 3,300 lives were lost in the U.S. due to distracted driving, while drunk or drug-impaired drivers contributed to nearly 32% of all traffic fatalities. Speeding and drowsy driving are also responsible for over 14,000 deaths each year combined.
