Clay City, KY (May 16, 2025) - A tragic hit-and-run pedestrian crash claimed the life of a man in Powell County on Tuesday, May 13.
Kentucky State Police have identified the victim as 42-year-old Ross Hicks of Mt. Sterling. According to an arrest citation, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Main Street in Clay City, near the Dairy Queen. When officers arrived at the scene, Hicks was found deceased.
Investigators later located the suspected vehicle in Jeffersonville. Upon conducting a traffic stop, police observed significant front-end damage to the car and identified the driver as 25-year-old woman.
The arrest citation reports that the driver exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol. While in custody, Martin allegedly confessed to stopping at a gas station after the collision and realizing she had hit someone. She also admitted to removing a backpack from the car’s front end — believed to belong to the victim — and leaving it behind before driving away. The driver is facing several charges in connection with the crash, including vehicular homicide. Police in Clay City continue to investigate the incident.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Being struck by a vehicle can be a traumatic, life-altering experience, especially when it happens because of a driver’s negligence. Victims may face a long road to recovery, both physically and financially, dealing with pain, emotional distress, and the inability to work while medical bills and other expenses pile up.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian crash caused by a careless or reckless driver, you may have the legal right to pursue compensation for the damages you’ve suffered.
