Hindman, KY (December 4, 2025) - A Kentucky State Police cruiser rear-ended a passenger vehicle in Knott County on Tuesday evening, December 2. Troopers received the call just after 5:15 p.m. along Kentucky Route 80 near Hindman. Early findings show the cruiser traveled east toward a maintenance garage when it struck the rear bumper of a car ahead.

The impact jolted the passenger vehicle and left two people needing medical care. Paramedics checked the driver and a passenger at the scene, then took both to Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. Doctors treated them for possible injuries. The trooper driving the cruiser did not suffer injuries, according to police.

Investigators have not said whether any charges will follow. Officials continue to examine the evidence, and the investigation remains open while they confirm the full details.

Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them a full recovery.

Rear-End Car Accidents in Kentucky

Rear-end collisions happen every day on Kentucky highways and two-lane roads. These crashes may look small at first, but they can still cause real harm. A sudden hit from behind forces the body forward and back in a split second. Even at moderate speeds, that movement can strain the neck, back, and shoulders. People often feel sore later that night or the next morning, when adrenaline wears off.

Kentucky Route 80 sees steady traffic from commuters, commercial drivers, and locals traveling between towns. Drivers may face limited sightlines, changing speeds, and tight gaps, especially in the late afternoon. When someone follows too closely or looks away for a moment, the risk of a rear-end crash rises fast. These wrecks also tend to cause chain reactions if other vehicles travel nearby.

After a rear-end crash, injured people should protect their health and their rights. Helpful steps include:

  • Get medical care right away, even if the pain feels mild. A doctor can spot hidden injuries early.
  • Follow all treatment plans and keep every appointment. That record shows how the crash affected you.
  • Save your medical bills, discharge papers, and any repair estimates. These costs matter in a claim.
  • Take photos of vehicle damage and the roadway if you can do so safely. Images preserve details that fade quickly.
  • Ask how to get the official crash report. The report helps confirm what officers found at the scene.
  • Be cautious when speaking with insurance companies. Adjusters may push for quick statements or low offers.

When another driver causes a Kentucky car accident, victims may have the right to seek compensation. A claim can cover hospital bills, follow-up treatment, lost wages, and pain. Even “minor” injuries can bring weeks of therapy, missed work, and stress for families.

In crashes that involve government vehicles, the process can also include special deadlines and rules. A car accident attorney can guide victims through those steps, gather evidence, and deal with insurance negotiations so they do not carry that burden alone.
