Kentucky Car Crashes

Car accidents happen every day in Kentucky, with more than 150,000 crashes reported annually. Of these, about 25,000 result in injuries, and tragically, around 700 people lose their lives each year. Most of these accidents are preventable, as they are often caused by negligent driving.

Negligent driving is the leading cause of most car accidents in both Kentucky and the broader United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 90% of car crashes nationwide are due to driver negligence. Whether it’s driving while distracted, fatigued, intoxicated, or at unsafe speeds, negligent drivers put their lives and the lives of others at risk.

Negligent driving takes many forms, such as speeding, which is responsible for over 11,000 deaths each year, and intoxicated driving, which claims about 12,000 lives annually. Distracted driving alone contributes to around 400,000 traffic collisions every year.
