Greensburg, KY (September 10, 2025) – A tragic accident in Adair County left one man dead after a collision on the Cumberland Parkway Monday evening, September 8.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:08 p.m. near the 45-mile marker on the westbound side of the parkway. According to the Kentucky State Police, 47-year-old Andy Lohden of Smiths Grove was driving a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country westbound on the Cumberland Parkway.
At the same time, 56-year-old Charles Smith Jr. of Huntington, Tennessee, was traveling in the same direction in a tractor-trailer. Smith had stopped on the right shoulder of the road and exited his vehicle when he was struck by Lohden’s vehicle.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County coroner. Lohden was unharmed and declined medical treatment, according to authorities.
Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Adair County Fire/EMS, and the Adair County Coroner’s Office. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
