Taylor Mill, KY (October 14, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash in Taylor Mill claimed one life on Monday, October 13. According to Kenton County Police, the accident occurred around 9:54 a.m. along Taylor Mill Road near Red Bud Drive.
Investigators said a dump truck traveling southbound on Taylor Mill Road veered off the right side of the road. The driver attempted to correct the truck by steering sharply to the left, crossing into the northbound lane, and striking an oncoming pickup truck head-on.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene to assist both drivers. Paramedics transported the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 66-year-old Jeffrey M. Smith, to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. Sadly, Smith later died from his injuries. The dump truck driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a local hospital, but has since been released.
Police closed Taylor Mill Road for several hours to allow the Kenton County STAR Unit to reconstruct the scene and determine the sequence of events leading to the fatal crash. Investigators are reviewing whether mechanical issues, weather, or driver error contributed to the collision.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Jeffrey M. Smith during this heartbreaking time.
