Somerset, KY (October 17, 2025) – A tragic accident on Thursday, October 16, claimed the life of a 55-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle on the 1500 block of South U.S. Highway 27 in Somerset.

According to the Somerset Fire Department, emergency crews responded to the scene around 10:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. Responders arrived to find the man severely injured in the roadway. Paramedics transported him to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim carried credit cards but no wallet or identification. Authorities are still working to verify his identity. His body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Somerset Police and the Kentucky State Police closed the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 while investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence. They are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Kentucky55-Year-Old Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on U.S. 27

Pedestrian accidents often result in devastating outcomes, especially on major roads where vehicles travel at high speeds and visibility can be low at night. Sadly, fatal pedestrian crashes like this one in Somerset highlight the dangers faced by individuals walking near traffic.

In Kentucky, pedestrian fatalities have been steadily rising in recent years, largely due to driver distraction, poor lighting, and limited crosswalk access in high-traffic areas. Victims rarely survive such impacts because they have no protection from the force of a vehicle. Families who lose loved ones in these crashes often face emotional pain, financial strain, and unanswered questions about accountability.

When a fatal crash involves negligence—such as speeding, impaired driving, or failure to yield—surviving relatives may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Through legal action, families can seek compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial costs
  • Medical expenses prior to death
  • Loss of financial support and companionship
  • Emotional pain and suffering
  • Loss of future income and benefits

Working with an experienced wrongful death lawyer ensures that families understand their rights and have the legal support needed to hold negligent drivers accountable. A skilled attorney can investigate the crash, gather critical evidence, and pursue fair compensation on behalf of grieving families.
