Fatal bicycle accidents in Kentucky are becoming more frequent, especially in areas like Lexington where vehicle traffic and cycling routes often intersect. Bicyclists have little protection in collisions with cars, making even minor impacts potentially deadly. Crashes like this one show the devastating consequences of reckless and irresponsible driving.
Common causes of deadly bicycle accidents include distracted driving, speeding, failing to yield, and impaired driving. When a driver flees the scene after hitting someone, it not only violates state law but also denies the victim life-saving assistance. In Kentucky, leaving the scene of a fatal crash can lead to serious criminal charges and severe penalties.
Families who lose loved ones in these tragedies may pursue compensation through a wrongful death claim. A skilled wrongful death lawyer can help families recover damages for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, medical bills, and emotional suffering.
In addition, Kentucky law allows victims’ families to hold negligent drivers accountable through civil action. Working with an experienced attorney ensures the case is handled properly from investigation through settlement or trial. Attorneys can obtain surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and work with accident reconstruction experts to uncover the truth.
