Henderson, KY (November 12, 2025) – Emergency crews in Henderson were responding to a crash with injuries Tuesday night, November 11, when a separate collision occurred at the scene, leaving one responder hurt and two vehicles damaged.

According to officials, rescue teams had positioned Truck 752 on I-69 to block oncoming traffic and safely divert vehicles into another lane while assisting victims from an earlier accident. Moments after the crew exited the truck, leaving its emergency lights flashing, an oncoming car crashed into the rescue truck, pushing it more than 20 feet into another emergency vehicle.

One Rescue Squad member was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Authorities confirmed that the crew’s decision to use the truck as a safety barrier likely prevented a much more serious tragedy. The impact, however, rendered Truck 752 completely out of service.

Traffic in the area slowed as police and first responders cleared the scene and assessed the damage. The Henderson Police Department continues to investigate what caused the secondary crash, including whether driver distraction or speed played a role.

We’re grateful no additional injuries occurred and wish the recovering responder a swift return to full health.

Crashes involving emergency response vehicles highlight the dangers first responders face while working roadside. Even with flashing lights, reflective gear, and blocked lanes, distracted or impatient drivers can still cause devastating accidents.

Motorists in Kentucky are legally required to follow the state’s “Move Over” law, which mandates that drivers slow down and, when possible, move into another lane when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadway. Failing to do so can result in serious penalties — and tragic outcomes.

In accidents like this one, the injured responder or their family may have grounds to file a personal injury claim to cover medical expenses, lost income, and damage to property. Legal guidance from a skilled personal injury attorney can make a crucial difference in navigating complex insurance claims and holding negligent drivers accountable.

A lawyer can also investigate contributing factors such as speeding, intoxication, or texting while driving to ensure the injured party receives fair compensation.
