Louisville, KY (December 16, 2025) – A tragic incident in the Clifton Heights neighborhood claimed the life of a man on Monday, December 15, after he was struck by his own rideshare vehicle, according to Louisville Metro Police.
The fatal accident occurred just before 9:30 a.m. on North Hite Avenue. Police said the rideshare driver attempted to drive up a snowy hill with the passenger inside the vehicle. Due to slick road conditions, the driver struggled to gain traction.
Authorities reported that the passenger noticed the difficulty and decided to exit the vehicle to walk up the hill instead. After the man stepped out, the driver did not see him move behind the vehicle. Moments later, the car rolled backward on the snow-covered roadway and struck the man.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene but pronounced the man dead due to his injuries. Police confirmed that the driver remained at the location and cooperated with the investigation.
Louisville Metro Police continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones during this challenging time.

Fatal accidents involving rideshare vehicles raise complex legal and safety concerns. In winter conditions, drivers and passengers face increased risks due to reduced traction, poor visibility, and unpredictable vehicle movement. Situations like this may fall under broader car accident and pedestrian accident considerations, even when only one vehicle is involved.
