Knox County, KY (December 22, 2025) – A man who suffered critical injuries in a crash involving a semi-truck on Saturday evening has died, according to the Kentucky State Police. The collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. on December 20 along US-25E in the Gray community of Knox County.

State police reported that a Kenworth tractor-trailer attempted to merge into the northbound lane of US-25E. During that maneuver, the truck crossed the southbound lane and stopped in the median. While stopped, the driver’s side of the trailer reportedly blocked part of the southbound lane.

At that time, a Toyota Prius traveled southbound on US-25E. Investigators stated that the vehicle collided with the side of the trailer that extended into the lane. Emergency responders arrived quickly and found the driver of the Prius with critical injuries.

Medical crews transported the injured driver by air to the University of Kentucky Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, authorities confirmed that the driver died from his injuries on Sunday, December 21. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office pronounced the death.

The semi-truck driver did not report serious injuries at the scene. Kentucky State Police secured the roadway, documented evidence, and began a detailed investigation into how the crash occurred. Officials have not announced whether charges or citations may follow. Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this challenging time.

Fatal Truck Accidents in KentuckyFatal Semi-Truck Accident on US-25E in Gray

Truck accidents on Kentucky highways often lead to devastating outcomes due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. When a semi-truck blocks a travel lane, even briefly, drivers approaching at highway speeds may have little time to react. These situations can quickly turn deadly.

Fatal crashes involving tractor-trailers often raise issues such as:

  • Unsafe lane changes or improper merging by commercial drivers
  • Trailers blocking active travel lanes
  • Limited visibility for approaching drivers
  • Failure to warn other motorists of stopped vehicles
  • Delayed reaction time at highway speeds

A fatal truck accident can leave families facing emotional pain, financial strain, and unanswered questions. In Kentucky, wrongful death cases often arise after crashes involving large commercial vehicles, especially when unsafe maneuvers or roadway obstructions play a role. Families may need time and support to understand what happened and what options exist.

When a loved one dies in a truck accident, surviving family members may consider speaking with a wrongful death lawyer to understand their rights. Legal guidance can help families review crash reports, investigate liability, and determine whether negligence contributed to the loss.
