Ashland, KY – 13-Year-Old Girl Dies After House Fire on Central Ave

Ashland, KY (March 26, 2026) – A 13-year-old girl lost her life after a house fire Wednesday evening, March 25, in Ashland, according to local officials. Emergency units responded shortly after 7 p.m. to reports of a fire at a home on Central Avenue. Dispatchers received the call and crews arrived about two minutes later to find flames spreading quickly through the property.

Firefighters saw that the fire had already extended beyond the original home. The flames had spread to two nearby houses by the time crews reached the scene.

Residents from the home where the fire started informed firefighters that a child remained trapped inside the burning structure. Crews entered the building and searched for the victim despite heavy fire conditions.

Firefighters located the girl, identified as 13-year-old Brooklyn Johnson, in a bedroom. Responders removed her from the home through a window and rushed her to UK King’s Daughters Medical Center for emergency medical care.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Brooklyn later died from her injuries at the hospital. Officials confirmed that she was a student at Ashland Middle School.

The home where the fire started had seven occupants, including five children. Authorities reported that no other injuries occurred during the incident.

Fire crews worked for about an hour and a half to control the flames affecting the three homes. Officials have not confirmed what caused the fire to start.

Investigators from the Ashland Fire Marshal’s Office continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the fire. Officials said foul play is not suspected at this time.
