Shively, KY (May 26, 2026) – A drunk driver caused a deadly crash on Monday evening, May 25, at Rockford Lane and Dixie Highway in Shively around 7:56 p.m.
The Shively Police Department said the accident occurred when a drunk driver ran a red light and plowed into a TARC bus stop, and consequently killed one woman and critically injured two others.
Kevin D. Moore, 45, was behind the wheel of a pickup truck headed north on Dixie Highway when surveillance footage showed him crossing into the intersection against a red light. His truck struck a passenger car turning left from the southbound lanes before he drove onto the sidewalk and into the bus stop where several people were standing.
Danielle Cordes, 43, of Louisville, was found dead at the scene. A second woman was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. A third woman, believed to be in her late 20s, was also hospitalized in critical condition. Two additional people at the bus stop were hurt, likely from debris.
Moore was found sitting on the curb when officers arrived. He told police the accident was not his fault despite admitting he had been drinking tequila an hour earlier. He refused a field sobriety test. A court-ordered blood draw was later conducted after Moore refused all evidentiary testing at the jail.
Moore was charged with murder, DUI, disregarding a traffic light, criminal mischief, reckless driving, two counts of assault, two counts of wanton endangerment, and two counts of assault with minor injury. He was taken to Metro Corrections and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday morning.
Detectives continue to build their case as the investigation moves forward.
We extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased victim and a smooth recovery to all those hurt.

Those struck by a car in Shively, KY can suffer catastrophic injuries. Fatal trauma, traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries are all documented outcomes in crashes of this kind.
For those who survive, life-threatening injuries can mean months of hospitalization, surgical procedures, rehabilitation, and permanent changes to daily life. The families of those killed are left to manage grief alongside financial hardship.
Dixie Highway is one of the most heavily traveled commercial corridors in Jefferson County. Bus stops along this corridor place pedestrians directly adjacent to high-speed traffic and leave them with little protection when a driver loses control or runs a red light.
When a driver is charged with DUI and murder following a fatal crash, surviving family members of the deceased may have grounds for a wrongful death claim in addition to any criminal proceedings. Others who were hurt may have separate personal injury claims.
Kentucky law allows families to seek compensation for funeral costs, loss of income, and loss of companionship. A wrongful death attorney can help identify what claims apply, gather relevant evidence, and guide families through the legal process during an extraordinarily difficult time.
