Olive Hill, KY (June 4, 2026) – Three people were hurt just before 1:20 p.m. after a pickup truck lost its brakes and crashed into a rock wall near State Route 2 and State Route 59 in Olive Hill.

The driver told Olive Hill Police he was unable to stop as he approached a stop sign on Route 59. The truck went through the intersection and hit the rock wall. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

The truck was hauling a tank of driveway sealer that had been filled shortly before the crash. Police said the weight of the full tank prevented the vehicle from stopping in time. All three people in the truck were covered in the substance following the collision.

The two passengers, one male and one female, were flown to a hospital in Huntington. The driver was taken by ground to a hospital in Morehead. No names or ages were included in the initial report on the accident.

Investigators are working to determine the full circumstances of the crash.

We hope all three recover quickly and fully.

Brake Failure Crashes on Rural Routes in Olive Hill, KYMidday Brake Failure Sends Three to Hospital in Olive Hill, KY

When a commercial or work vehicle loses its brakes on a rural road in Olive Hill, the consequences can be severe. Crashes like this one can cause a wide range of serious injuries. People involved may face broken bones, head trauma, internal injuries, or burns and skin irritation from exposure to chemical substances like driveway sealer. Some effects of chemical exposure may not be immediately obvious, which makes a prompt medical evaluation especially important.

When a brake failure causes a crash, the question of liability can be complex. Responsibility may extend beyond the driver to include the company that owns or maintains the vehicle, a mechanic who last serviced the brakes, or a cargo loader whose decisions about weight and load distribution contributed to the loss of control. A car accident attorney can help identify which parties may bear responsibility and what options may be available to those hurt.
