Ashcamp, KY (February 27, 2026) – A man died Wednesday afternoon, February 25, after a crash involving an ambulance on Kentucky Route 197 in Ashcamp, Pike County.

The Kentucky State Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a serious accident. Investigators said Matthew Corbett was driving an ambulance owned by Lifeguard Ambulance Service when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Douglas Jones, who rode as a passenger in the ambulance, suffered critical injuries. Emergency responders took him to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Authorities have not confirmed whether Corbett sustained injuries in the collision.

Police have not released the ages of those involved or their hometowns. Investigators continue to review what may have caused the ambulance to leave the roadway.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim during this difficult time.

Evidence Needed in a Fatal Accident Case Involving Public Entities in KentuckyPassenger Killed in Ambulance Crash on KY Rte 197

Fatal accident cases involving public entities in Kentucky often require detailed and well-preserved evidence. Key evidence may include crash reports, vehicle maintenance records, driver training files, dispatch logs, and medical records. Because public or contracted emergency services may operate under specific regulations, documentation plays a central role in evaluating the case.

In Kentucky, when claims involve government agencies or publicly funded services, they can follow different legal procedures from standard car accident cases. Strict notice deadlines may apply, and certain legal protections can limit how and when a claim moves forward. Families may need to review contracts, employment records, and agency policies to understand how responsibility may apply.

Accident reconstruction evidence can also become important. Investigators may examine skid marks, vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and electronic data from the ambulance. Maintenance records can show whether the vehicle received proper inspections and repairs. Driver qualification files may help clarify training history and work schedules.

Medical records and coroner reports often provide critical details about the cause of death. These documents can help connect injuries directly to the crash. In wrongful death cases, financial records may also help calculate economic losses such as medical expenses and funeral costs.

A wrongful death attorney can review crash documentation, agency records, and insurance coverage to explain how Kentucky law may apply in a fatal accident case. At Byrnes Law Office, we have experience examining serious injury and wrongful death claims and outlining possible legal options under Kentucky law.
