Boyle County, KY (March 5, 2026) – One person died and a sheriff’s deputy suffered injuries after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night, March 3, at the intersection of US-127 and West Shelby Street in Boyle County.
Emergency units responded around 9:30 p.m. after reports of a serious collision involving a passenger vehicle and a law enforcement cruiser. Responders arrived and began assisting those involved while investigators worked to document the scene.
Authorities said a deputy from the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office traveled northbound on US-127 and attempted to turn left onto West Shelby Street. At the same time, a car traveling southbound on US-127 entered the intersection.
Investigators reported that the southbound vehicle disregarded a traffic control device before striking the deputy’s cruiser. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and left the drivers injured.
Paramedics transported the driver of the car to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. Officials later confirmed that the driver died from injuries sustained in the crash. The Boyle County coroner identified the victim as 27-year-old Michael Mingey of Lancaster. Authorities released his identity after notifying his family.
Emergency responders also transported the deputy involved in the collision to the same hospital. Officials reported that the deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the accident.
Officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim and hope the injured deputy recovers quickly.

Documenting injuries after a car accident in Kentucky helps create a clear record of what happened and how the crash affected a person’s health. Important steps include seeking medical care immediately, keeping copies of medical records, taking photos of visible injuries, saving accident reports, and writing down symptoms that appear after the collision.
Medical evaluations serve as the foundation for injury documentation. Doctors can identify conditions that may not appear right away, such as internal injuries or head trauma. Medical records often include test results, treatment plans, and notes about symptoms. These details help track recovery and create a timeline of medical care after the crash.
Photos and written notes also help document the effects of a collision. Images of injuries, damaged vehicles, and the crash scene can provide useful context later. Many people also keep a simple journal that tracks pain levels, medical visits, medications, and physical limitations during recovery.
Official crash reports also play a key role in documenting accidents. These reports usually contain details about the vehicles involved, statements from drivers or witnesses, and observations recorded by responding officers. Insurance companies and legal professionals often review these reports when evaluating accident claims.
Kentucky law also sets time limits for filing injury claims related to vehicle crashes. In many cases, individuals have a limited period to pursue legal action after an accident. Because deadlines and procedures can vary depending on the circumstances, reviewing documentation early may help people understand what steps remain available.
After a serious crash, many people also consider speaking with a car accident lawyer to better understand their options and rights. A lawyer who focuses on motor vehicle accidents can review the details of the collision, explain how insurance claims typically work, and help determine what steps may come next.
