Gamaliel, KY (January 2, 2026) – Monroe County authorities are investigating a serious dog attack that occurred on Tuesday, December 30, in the town of Gamaliel. The incident left one woman with life-threatening injuries.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded around 4:00 p.m. to Washington Street near the local soccer field after reports of a woman being attacked by multiple dogs. Officials stated that four dogs mauled the woman while she walked in the area.
Emergency medical crews arrived quickly and found the victim with extensive injuries. She suffered multiple lacerations, some deep enough to reach the bone. Authorities also confirmed that she sustained broken bones and crush injuries during the attack.
Paramedics transported her to Bowling Green Medical Center for emergency care. Due to the severity of her injuries, a medical helicopter later flew her to a hospital in Nashville.
Deputies and members of the Gamaliel Fire Department immediately searched the area for the dogs involved. Officers located one dog on East Main Street near Fannie Jean’s Restaurant and euthanized it at the scene. The remaining three dogs were not found and remained at large at the time of the report.
