Greensburg, KY (May 15, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash on US 68 (Edmonton Road) in Green County killed one person and injured another just after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12. The collision happened when one vehicle crossed the centerline and entered oncoming traffic.

Janice McKinney, 76, of Greensburg, was driving east on US 68 in a 2009 Kia Rio when her vehicle crossed into the westbound lane. Her car entered the path of a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling west, driven by Cody Richmond, 30, also of Greensburg. The two vehicles collided head-on.

The Green County Coroner pronounced McKinney dead at the scene. Emergency units transported Richmond to TJ Sampson Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released additional details about his condition.

The crash remains under active investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Janice McKinney. We also wish a full recovery to those injured.

Compensation That Victims Can Recover After a Car Accident in KentuckyWoman Killed, Man Injured in Head-On Crash on US 68

After a car accident in Kentucky, injured victims and surviving family members may be able to recover several types of compensation depending on the circumstances of the crash. Kentucky operates under a choice no-fault insurance system, meaning drivers can choose between no-fault coverage and traditional tort liability coverage when they purchase their policy.

Victims who retained their right to sue under Kentucky's tort system may pursue economic damages. These cover medical bills, hospital stays, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, and future earning capacity if injuries cause long-term limitations.

Non-economic damages cover the broader personal impact of a crash. Pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of daily life all qualify. Kentucky courts consider these losses seriously, particularly in crashes involving severe injuries or fatalities. Families who lose a loved one in a crash may also pursue wrongful death damages, which can include funeral expenses, loss of future income, and loss of companionship.

Kentucky's no-fault system also provides Personal Injury Protection benefits regardless of fault, covering basic medical expenses and a portion of lost wages up to policy limits. However, PIP benefits alone often fall short of covering the full cost of serious injuries. When losses exceed those limits pursuing a personal injury or wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver may be the most effective path forward.

Understanding which type of coverage applies to your situation and how Kentucky law affects your options can be difficult without legal guidance. A car accident attorney can review your policy, the crash report, and the available evidence to clarify what compensation may be within reach.
