Hardin County, KY (February 17, 2026) – A 29-year-old Kentucky man died Monday morning, February 16, after a crash on Interstate 65 in Hardin County. Kentucky State Police reported that the accident occurred around 9:46 a.m. near the 103-mile marker on Interstate 65 North, close to Lebanon Junction. Investigators said traffic had slowed on the interstate because of an earlier crash near the 106-mile marker.
According to preliminary findings, a blue Hyundai traveling north struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was also headed northbound. Authorities identified the Hyundai’s driver as Drew Cookenmaster, 29, of Hodgenville.
The impact caused severe damage to the passenger vehicle. The Hardin County Coroner pronounced Cookenmaster dead at the scene.
Officials closed the northbound lanes near the Joe Prather exit for several hours while crews investigated and cleared the roadway. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this crash.

After a serious collision in Kentucky, families may be able to seek damages through an insurance claim or personal injury lawsuit, depending on the circumstances. Acting quickly helps preserve evidence and ensures important deadlines do not pass. Kentucky law sets time limits for filing injury-related claims, so early review matters.
Serious crashes often lead to high medical expenses, including emergency care, surgery, rehabilitation, and follow-up visits. Some people also miss work while they recover. In these situations, damages may include medical costs, lost income, and other financial losses tied to the accident. Each case depends on factors such as fault, insurance coverage, and the extent of the injuries.
Strong documentation supports the process. Medical records, hospital bills, wage statements, repair estimates, and the official crash report all help show how the collision affected daily life. Photos of vehicle damage and the scene may also provide useful context. Keeping these records organized can make communication with insurers more efficient.
A car accident attorney can review the details of a serious crash, explain how Kentucky’s comparative fault rules may apply, and outline what types of compensation might be available. Legal guidance can also clarify how negotiations with insurance companies typically work.
