Hopkinsville, KY (February 17, 2026) – Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle accident on Monday, February 16, in Christian County. The crash happened around 3:53 a.m. at the intersection of East 9th Street and South Virginia Street.
According to reports, a car traveling north on South Virginia Street collided with a vehicle heading east on East 9th Street. Police said the impact occurred after the northbound driver allegedly ran a red light.
Two people riding in the eastbound vehicle suffered injuries. Emergency units responded to the scene and took them to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment. The driver of that vehicle later went to the hospital in a private vehicle for additional care.
Authorities said the driver of the northbound car ran from the scene on foot after the crash. Police later identified the driver as 23-year-old Desiree Youngblood of Hopkinsville. Officers found Youngblood on Glass Avenue.
Investigators also learned that the vehicle involved was owned by Youngblood’s sister, who told police she had not given permission for it to be used. Youngblood now faces charges that include leaving the scene of an accident and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover.
A lawyer can review the details of a hit-and-run crash and explain what legal options may be available. These types of accidents often raise questions about insurance coverage, especially when one driver leaves the scene. Legal guidance can also help organize medical bills, wage information, and repair estimates.
An attorney can answer any questions you may have and outline your available next steps based on the circumstances and details of your accident and your case.
According to national traffic safety data, around 700,000 crashes each year involve drivers who fail to remain at the scene, creating added challenges for those who were hurt.
Those injured in this kind of collision may face a range of medical issues. Common injuries include neck and back strain, broken bones, and head trauma. Some may notice soreness right away, while others develop symptoms hours or days later. Medical visits not only support recovery but also create records that connect injuries to the accident.
Insurance claims in a hit-and-run situation can be more complex than in other crashes. A personal injury lawyer can review available auto policies, including uninsured motorist coverage, and explain how claims are typically handled.
