Lily, KY (August 27, 2025) – Authorities in Laurel County are investigating a deadly crash that occurred Monday night along U.S. Highway 25 near the Lily community, just south of London.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened shortly after 9 p.m., prompting officials to close the roadway for several hours. The highway was reopened shortly after midnight.

Investigators said 87-year-old Edward Queen entered the roadway when he was struck by two vehicles—a Ford Expedition driven by 45-year-old Kenneth Woods of London and a Hyundai Sonata driven by 44-year-old Samantha Swift of Frankfort. Neither driver reported injuries.

Queen was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in London, where he was pronounced dead by the Laurel County Coroner.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Tuesday morning that the crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident.

Kentucky Pedestrian Accidents

Edward Queen Killed in Pedestrian Crash on US Hwy 25Fatal pedestrian accidents are an unfortunate and growing concern in Lexington and communities across Kentucky. Every year, lives are cut short when individuals walking along city streets, crosswalks, or rural roads are struck by vehicles. From heavily traveled areas like New Circle Road and downtown intersections to high-speed corridors along I-75 and I-64, pedestrians remain some of the most vulnerable users of Kentucky’s roadways.

Tragically, many of these incidents stem from entirely preventable behaviors—speeding, distracted driving, failure to yield, and impaired operation are among the leading causes of deadly pedestrian collisions. When motorists fail to share the road responsibly, the consequences can be catastrophic, often leaving families grieving the sudden loss of a loved one.

The impact of a fatal pedestrian crash extends far beyond the scene of the accident. Surviving family members are left to cope with emotional devastation, unexpected funeral expenses, and the void left by the loss of companionship and support. Knowing the tragedy was caused by someone else’s negligence can make the pain even harder to bear.
