Valley Station, KY (April 30, 2026) – A three-vehicle crash on Dixie Highway in Valley Station left two people hurt on Wednesday, April 29,  including a Kentucky State Police trooper. The collision occurred near the 15000 block of Dixie Highway, approximately four miles south of the Gene Snyder Freeway in Jefferson County.

Authorities say 33-year-old David Huggins of Louisville was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage south on Dixie Highway when he crashed into a Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by a Shepherdsville man who was also heading south. The force of the impact sent the pickup truck spinning into oncoming northbound traffic.

The Ford Ranger spun directly into the path of a marked state police cruiser driven by Trooper Lukas Jones. Trooper Jones struck the pickup truck after it entered the northbound lanes, making this a three-vehicle accident with injuries on both sides of the road.

After the crash, Huggins allegedly fled the scene and headed toward Radcliff. Officers tracked him down and arrested him in Vine Grove. Authorities charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence with aggravating circumstances, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid, and second-degree assault.

Emergency units took Trooper Jones to Jewish Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and he has since been released. Responders transported the Shepherdsville man to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities continue to review the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

We wish Trooper Jones and the Shepherdsville man a full and smooth recovery from their injuries.

Legal Rights After a Hit-and-Run Crash in KentuckyTwo Injured in Hit-and-Run Vehicle Crash on Dixie Hwy

People injured in a hit-and-run crash in Kentucky have the right to seek compensation, even when the at-fault driver initially flees the scene. When authorities locate and arrest the driver, injured victims may pursue a personal injury claim directly against that person. Kentucky law also provides options for situations where the driver is not immediately found, including uninsured motorist coverage through a person's own auto insurance policy.

Hit-and-run crashes often leave victims facing unexpected medical bills, missed work, and a recovery process that can stretch over weeks or months. Injuries from crashes involving multiple vehicles often include whiplash, broken bones, back and spinal trauma, and soft tissue damage that may not fully present until days after the accident.

Kentucky follows a choice no-fault insurance system, which means drivers can choose between a no-fault policy and a traditional tort-based policy when they purchase coverage. This distinction matters after a crash because it affects how and when an injured person can file a claim against another driver.

Under a traditional tort policy, an injured person may seek compensation directly from the at-fault driver for medical expenses, lost income, and pain-related damages. A personal injury attorney familiar with Kentucky insurance law can review a person's specific coverage and explain what options apply to their situation.

Kentucky's statute of limitations for personal injury claims is generally one year from the date of the accident. This window is shorter than in many other states, which makes it especially important for injured people to seek legal guidance without delay. Missing this deadline can prevent a person from filing a claim at all, regardless of how strong the case may be.
