Kentucky Car Wrecks

In 2023, the state of Kentucky saw a significant rise in highway fatalities, recording over 800 deaths, up from 744 in 2022. This marks the highest number of traffic accident fatalities recorded in the state since 2016. This upward trend reflects a 30% increase in traffic deaths over the past ten years, from 2013 to 2023. Approximately half of the 2023 fatalities involved people who were not wearing seatbelts.

Many different factors contribute to the high number of Kentucky car accidents. Driver distraction, including behavior like texting or talking on the phone, is a leading cause. Speeding substantially increases both the severity and likelihood of collisions. Intoxicated driving remains a constant problem, accounting for a significant number of deadly accidents. Additionally, improper lane changes, failing to yield the right-of-way, and improper turns further exacerbate this issue.
