Louisville, KY (May 13, 2026) – A man ended up in the hospital after a vehicle crashed through the front of a restaurant in Middletown on Tuesday afternoon, May 12. The accident happened just before 2 p.m. at The Cheddar Box Cafe.

A woman was behind the wheel when the vehicle plowed through the front of the building. The restaurant's manager, Catherine Wampler, said she heard a loud crashing noise and turned to see the car drive straight through the wall. She added that the engine kept running after the impact, meaning the driver's foot remained on the gas.

People inside the restaurant reacted quickly. Bystanders ran over and physically lifted the woman's foot off the gas pedal to stop the vehicle. Emergency units responded to the scene and took at least one man to a nearby hospital following the crash.

The restaurant showed significant destruction to the front of the building. Authorities have not released details about the man's condition or what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

Our thoughts remain with those affected as they recover from their injuries.

How Should I Document a Crash Scene in Kentucky?Man Hospitalized After Vehicle Crashes Into Restaurant on Shelbyville Rd

After a crash in Kentucky, documenting the scene thoroughly and as quickly as possible gives you the strongest foundation for any insurance claim or legal action that may follow. Good documentation starts at the scene itself — photos, witness information, and a police report are the three most important things to gather right away.

Start by taking photos from multiple angles. Capture the position of the vehicle, visible damage to the building or other property, any skid marks, and the surrounding area. If you are hurt and cannot do this yourself, ask someone nearby to take photos on your behalf. Photograph any visible injuries as well, since this creates a visual record that can support medical documentation later.

Gathering witness information matters just as much. If other people saw what happened, ask for their names and phone numbers before they leave the scene. Eyewitness accounts can help clarify the sequence of events, particularly in crashes where the cause is not immediately clear.

In Kentucky, a police report also serves as an official record of the accident — make sure officers file one before you leave, and request a copy for your own records. A Louisville personal injury lawyer can also help you understand how to use this documentation effectively when pursuing a claim.

Seek medical attention promptly, even if injuries seem minor at first. Some conditions, including concussions and soft tissue injuries, do not always produce immediate symptoms. A medical visit creates a record that directly connects your injuries to the crash, which can become important during a claim or legal proceeding. Keep all medical paperwork, receipts, and notes from follow-up visits organized in one place.
