Murray, KY (April 14, 2025) – A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a traffic accident in Murray on Saturday, April 12. According to reports from the Kentucky State Police, the wreck occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Initial investigations reveal Zachary Jackson, 22, of Madison, was operating a 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle on Poor Farm Road when he came to the intersection with US-641. At the intersection, he collided with Hardin resident Jonathan Mathis, 44. Mathis was headed south in a 2016 Ford Explorer. After the initial crash with the motorcycle, Mathis’ vehicle continued across the median into the northbound lanes, where it reportedly struck a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Sue Robinson, a 74-year-old Hampton resident.

State police report Jackson was airlifted to an out-of-state medical facility for serious injuries. Mathis was transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital with minor injuries. Robinson did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Authorities said the northbound lanes of US-641 between North 4th Street and KY-80 were closed for several hours due to the incident. Police in Murray continue to investigate the details of the crash.

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victims.

Kentucky Motorcycle Accidents

In Kentucky, around 150,000 car accidents occur each year. Of these, approximately 25,000 result in injuries, and around 700 lead to fatalities. While motorcycle collisions account for a relatively small portion of total crashes—roughly 1,500 per year, or about 1%—they are disproportionately dangerous. Motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to die in a crash than passenger car occupants, according to national data, and they frequently suffer serious or life-altering injuries, even in lower-speed collisions.

The majority of traffic accidents in Kentucky and across the United States are caused by driver negligence. Over the past decade, this issue has only grown worse. Negligent driving takes many forms, including distracted driving, driving under the influence, fatigue, and speeding. These behaviors put everyone on the road at risk—especially vulnerable road users like motorcyclists.
